1)Effective doctor-patient communication is a central clinical function in building a therapeutic doctor patient relationship, which is the heart and art of medicine. this is important in the delivery of high -quality health care, much patient dissatisfaction and many complaints are due to breakdown in the doctor-patient relationship. however, many doctors tend to overestimate their ability in communication
A doctor's communication andinterpersonal skills encompass the ability to gather information in order to facilitate accurate diagnosis, counsel appropriately, give therapeutic instructions, and establish caring relationship with patients. these are the core clinical skills in the practice of medicine, with the ultimate goal of achieving the best outcome and patient satisfaction, which are essential for effective delivery of health care. basic communication skills in isolation are insufficient to create and sustain a successful therapeutic doctor-patient relationship, which consists of shared perceptions and feelings regarding the nature of the problem, goals of treatment, and psychosocial support, interpersonal skills build on this basic communication skill. appropriate communication intergrates both patient-and doctor-centered approches.
The patient will never care how much you know, until they know how much you care
doctor patient communication is a major component of the process of health care. doctors are in a unique position of respect and power. most complaints about doctors are related to issues of communication, not clinical competancy, patients want doctors who can skillfully diagnose and treat their sicknesses as well as communicate with them effectively.
doctors with better communication and interpersonal skills are able to detect problems earlier, can prevent medical crises and expensive intervention, and provide better support to their patients, this may le4ad to higher-quality outcomes and better satiusfaction, lower costs of care, greater patient understanding of health issues, and better adherence to the treatment process. there is currently a greater expectation of collaborative decision making, with physicians and patients participating as partners to achieve the agreed upon goal and the attainment of quality of life. for example; a carrying lady may have some emotional insecurity on the time of her pegnancy, she need personal care and support from her doctor. that will make her comfortable. *like that a cancer patient who suffer from severe pain and difficulty can be feel ease with the approach of thedoctor who can inderstand the feeling and difficulty of the patient. the emotional relationship will help both of them to make the treatment easy and smooth.
2) The patient's companion's are like double sided sword, they are a companion who takes the patient in to doctor and explain the details to the doctor. they communicate for the patient, it is helpfull to the doctor and patient, but some times they are behaving like a nuisance, because they exagerate the situation and make patient and doctor confused.
they takes the situation to a dilemma and make the feel that the patient has something serious and so on, their interpretation makes the doctor confused about treatment often get deviated from the real issues. actually there should be a clear communication between doctor - patient and the companion of the patient.
