An Abstract for Tetrahymena.
. The purpose of this lab was to test the effect of salt concentrations on Tetrahymena
length of 200 words
We performed three experiments to discern the effects of salt on tetrahymena which are chemotaxis, phagocytosis and secretion, and osmosis.
Tetrahymena is a freshwater ciliated protozoa.Salts can overdose effect on the range of organisms. The experimental cell suggest that increasing concentration decreases the population of of Tetrahymena thermophilia. We found that salt does have detrimental effect on T.thermophilia , more at higher concentration and toxic concentration is reached. Because of their natural environment in freshwater ,we expect them exhibit osmoregulation under hypetonic condition. However this ability to regulate should be relativily low. The doubling time of T. Thermophila is 2- 4 hours which makes the observation population growth under a short time span. At a particular concentration T. thermophila started dieting creating crenation. They starts undergoing mutation some strrain to remain for longer.in salt condition all of them experienced decrease in the reproduction and Decreased cell counts.Tetrahymena’s free-living, non-pathogenic lifestyle makes it completely safe to work with. When food is seen with the help of cilia they do phagocytosis. The rate of phagocytosis decrease in presence of salt concentration. There is also overall decrease in the cell number in salt condition.
