Hashimitos Thyroiditis:

It is otherwise known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. It comes under an autoimmune disease which can collapse the thyroid function.

Treatment options:

Titrated Levothyroxine sodium which can be taken orally.

Expected outcomes of treatment:

An interprofessional team of health care professional are responsible for levothyro​​​​​​xine dosages and monitor the patient for any complications which can be arised due to high dosages. Outcome of treatment include that there is no significantly increased risk of all cause of mortality in hashimitos thyroiditis patients.

Treatment works:

In this condition,it plays the role of T4. LT4 replaces the T4. Then it binds with thyroid receptor proteins. It regulates body metabolism. Antigens are produced which can be looks like thythyroid peroxidase. That stimulates the antibody formation opposite to this enzyme.

How long does that treatment last:

Time to Maximum concentration of levothyroxine is 2 hours. Half life of this medication is 7 days. The right time and benefitted time of the medication taken by the patient in morning. That also should be in empty stomach for absorption process. This treatment arises symptoms when it reaches around 4 to 6 weeks.

Adverse effects:

More doses of levothyroxine will lead to serious complications. Side effects which can be included are:

  • Angina pectoris
  • Arrhythmias
  • Myocardial infarction
  • Osteoporosis
  • Menstrual irregularities
