19. Provide 3 clear examples of where a diathesis-stress model (hint” integrative; triple vulnerability) best describes the processes involved in the development and maintenance of any of the psychological disorders covered in class or in the assigned readings
Diathesis stress model in psychology is that which attempts to explain a disorder as an interaction between predispositional vulnerablity and stress caused life experiences.A diathesis can be psychological, biological or situational. It is how the biological or genetic factors interact with environmental influences to produce disorders. For example if there is history of alchoholism in the family,A may not pick up the influence even when exposed to the environment but B may be influenced since its genetic in him and vulnerablity to the situation will make him develop this habit.
Another example is a person may be vulnerable to depression but may not because they are not exposed to that specific stress. Not all who are stressed become depressed ,it is the family biological and genetics that will contribute to the depression. As said it is the vulnerablity and amount of stress factor to it.A family history of schizoprenia is likely when he is stressed raised in dysfunctional family.Multiple risk factors over the course of development interact with stressors contributing to normal development of psychopathology.A person with biological vulnerablity when exposed to positive environments could turn out to have better outcome.
