Diversity is defined as a real or perceived differences among people that effect their interaction and relationship. These diversity occurs in respect to race, ethnicity,age, gender, physical and mental ability,family status, marital status, weight, sexual orientation and appearance. These diversity greatly influences the health status of Indian population.
The health risk and health outcomes of these diverse population is also diverse. The risk factors that effect a group of people with same race or ethnicity will not be the same for others. The presence of sickle cell anemia although its not a racial disease but characteristic of some local population.The diseases that are prevalent among the low socioeconomic group are not prevalent among high socioeconomic status group. Moreover the application of health resources among them should also focus on various diversity present in India.
These diversities prevalent among Indian population also creates potential issues in maintaining the health status. The experiences, learning, understanding, cooperation,ideas,feeling and adoption of any event, is different among the different race, ethnicity and cultural background. Beliefs and behaviors relating to health and illness are influenced by culture and vary by ethnicity. In some circumstance poor health outcomes are found resulting from poor health mainly occurring due to poverty, lack of assess to health services and non availability of good nutrition.
In order improve the health status in India, the people of all diversities should be considered with equality. The health services should be accessible to everyone irrespective of these differences. The services should be approachable and the government should give an ear even to the minority groups of country.
