You will need to read the description of the research project below, decide which T-statistic to calculate, do all the calculations, and then report the results as you would report it in the research literature.

A researcher wants to evaluate whether listening to different genres of music affect memory. A sample of n1 = 4 people are given a list of 20 words to memorize while listening to classical music, while another sample of n2 = 4 people are given the same list of 20 words to memorize while listening to rock music.

Analyze whether there was a significant difference in the memory scores between the classical music group and the rock music group using a one-tailed test with α = 0.05.

The data from the study are below:

Classical Music      Rock Music
14      15
16      15
14      13
20      17

Expert Solution

We are to test whether there is a significant difference in the memory scores between the classical music group and the rock music group using a one-tailed test with α = 0.05.

Since the p-value is greater than the 0.05 significance level, we fail to reject the null hypothesis (H0). We conclude that there is not enough evidence to support the claim that there is a significant difference in the memory scores between the classical music group and the rock music group using a one-tailed test at the 0.05 significance level.
