how are metabolic reactions (particularly respiration) and combustion reactions similar and how are these reactions different?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution :-

The similarities between the both reaction is that in both reaction glucose reacts with the oxygen to form the other products and release the energy which is utilized for the different functions.

The difference in the respiration and combustion is

Respiration reactions takes place at the body temeprature. while the combustion reaction gives of the energy in hig amount which increases the temperature very significantly.

In the respiration reaction different enzymes and catalyst were used to control the acitivation energy of the reactions so that the reaction can occure at the body temperature while in the combustion the enzymes or catalyst are not used.

The activation energy for the respiration reaction is very low therefore reactions can occure at the body temperature in contrast the activation energy of the combustion reaction is very high therefore combustion starts at high temperature.

Respiraton reactions takes place within the cell while the comnbustion reactions are not took place in the cell.
