Adolescent pregnancy or teen pregnancy can result in number of negative consequences .It is very much necessary to understand the associated risk and protective factors in order to implement prevention efforts.The risk factors are

  • Lack of the goals for the future
  • lack of knowledge about sex or contraception
  • poor school performance in which teachers should also educate students about the risks in future.
  • being the victim of sexual abuse.
  • Drugs and alcohol uses which has no control in what they are doing.
  • Social risk factors like dating at an early age,having friendship who are sexually active,poor relationships with parents.
  • Some of the family risk factors are poor parental supervision,negative family interactions,single parent families,conflicts between family members.

Prevention of it is very much necessary and should educate our children about the issues that might cause.Parents should talk to their children about the aftermath issues like pregnancy and how it ends their future with no career buildup.Hold open discussions and allow your teens to speak up and ask questions about it.

Over past decade,South asia has successfully reduced the proportion of pregnancy to half.But still there are issues about child marriages in such places which are resulting in adolescent pregnancy.High fertility and discontinued education are the main reasons for such steps causing greatest threat in teen pregnancy leading to high mortality rate.One should try to mitigate the burden by mass awareness and strong legislation.
