Describe in detail the events that can lead to activation of Calmodulin

Solutions

Expert Solution

Calmodulin is a calcium binding multifunctional intermediate messenger protein involved in all eukaryotic cells , the binding of ca2+ is required for the activation of calmodulin,it acts as a path of calcium signal transduction pathway by modifiying it's interaction with the target proteins such as kinase, these are found in mammelian cell systems.

Calmodulin activated protein kinases , members of this family include ser/ thr kinases whose substrate p sites contain either her or thr, activation is dependent on the binding if calcium.

This catalytic domain followed by regulatory domain which contains both auto inhibitory domain as well as CAM binding domain, these two overlaps slightly and binding of CA+2 regulates function of auto inhibitory domain at basal levels ca+2 ,CAM kinases maintained in a dormant stare through a autoinhibitory mechanism involving a regulatory domain for catalytic domain.
