Find the Number.

The sum of four times a number and 6 is equal to the difference of twice the number and 10 . Find the number.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Let the number be x.

Four times the number = 4x.

Twice of number = 2x.

So, sum of four times a number and

                         = 4x+6.

And difference of twice the number and 10

                         = 2x-10.

According to the given information we get

                    4x+6 = 2x-10

                    4x-2x = -10-6

                         2x = -16

                           x = -8

The number is -8.
