Suppose a basketball player has made 287 out of 334 free throws. If the player makes the next 3 free throws, I will pay you $12. Otherwise you pay me $20. Step 2 of 2 : If you played this game 872 times how much would you expect to win or lose? Round your answer to two decimal places. Losses must be entered as negative.
P(Making the next three free throws = (287/334)3 = 0.634
So P(Not making) = 1 - 0.634 = 0.366
Hence,
Expected value = 0.634*12 - 0.366*20 = 0.3028
Therefore,
Expected amount of win in 872 games = 872*0.3028 = 264.04
