The World Health Organization defines social determinants of health as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age.
Medicare is the primary medical coverage provider for many people age 65 and older and those with a disability.Medicaid is designed for people with limited income and is often a program of last resort for those without access to other resources.
Affordable Care Act (ACA) has 3 primary goals: Make affordable health insurance available to more people.
These organizational health policies will give affordable care to all population by considering the social determinants such as income level, occupation, employment status,gender inequity, racial segregation, access to housing and utility services.
Hence the health polices have great impact on the social determinants
The social factors such as individual behavior, socioeconomic status, and the physical environment having a significant impact on outcomes. These social determinants give rise to health disparities. It occurs from social, political, and economic factors that do not give individuals an equal opportunity to make healthy choices.
Health disparities are preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to achieve optimal health. Health disparities are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations. These are based on factors such as race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
