Maria is an 18-year-old G1P0, 34 weeks’ gestation who is being sent to the labor and delivery floor for monitoring of her blood pressure and to monitor for other signs of preeclampsia.

  1. Identify the four different types of hypertension in pregnancy.
  2. Discuss gestational hypertension and how this differs from preeclampsia. How will the provider determine if Maria has gestational hypertension or preeclampsia?
  3. What is the treatment and what educational instructions would you provide to Maria if she is diagnosed with preeclampsia?

Hyprertensive diaorder during pregnancy are clasified in to 4 types,

  1. Chronic hypertention
  2. Preeclampsia eclampsia
  3. Preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertention
  4. Gestational hypertention (transient hepretention of pregnancy or chronic hyper tentionidentified in the later half of the pregnancy)
  • Gestational hepertennsion is diagnosed when blood pressure readings are higher than 140/90 mmhg in a women who had mormal blood pressure prior to 20 weeks and has no proteinuria.
  • Preeclampsia is diagnosed when a women with geststional hypertension also has increased protien in her urine.
  • If Maria has BP- more than 140/90 or proteinuriathen we can diagnose as preeclampsia.

Advices for Maria,

call for health care profesional if you have,

  • severe abdominal pain
  • severe head ache
  • blured or spoted vision
  • bleeding from birth canal
  • urinationg little or not at all
  • do not feel babies movement

Take the medicines as prescribed by the doctor,Take rest as directed,Donot drink alcohol and smoke,Do kick counts as directed,Check the weight each day,
