Children are vulnerable to infections as their immune system is not completely developed. The severity of diseases changes between adults and children.
Environmental factors are air, land, water. If they are contaminated it leads to changes in body. Air may get polluted with toxic substances which can lead to many diseases of respiratory and circulatory systems. If a kid is playing in dirt , mud or any unhygienic places , the child may get infected with micro organisms leading to infections of digestive system. If the mud has contaminant of lead it may affect the nervous system of the kid. Environmental factors are not only outdoor but also indoor inside school and houses too.The drinking water if not good and contaminated with any pollutants or microorganisms it may be very dangerous to kids as they have developing immune systems.
Poverty is a not single concept , it is a combination of many factors like illiteracy , poor hygiene, low economy . In simple terms it is poor quality of life. Children's development in early age is very important factor helping in later development of health . So when the kid lacks good water , and nutritious food that may be a predisposing factor for many illnesses and may become fatal too. Children in lowersocionomic groups have poor health outcomes as they donot have privilege to enjoy secure housing with hygienic atmosphere. Developmental milestones arenot achieved in exact stage of growth leading to increased severity of diseases ends in increased morbidity and mortality rates. Lack of education may lead to decreased vaccination rates, mother's not adequately nutritive which would lead to low birth weight malnourished baby . When the fetus inside mother is not getting adequate nutrition leading to many metabolic and immune problems in future. Low birth weight leads to repeated hospitalizations , more vulnerable to diseases and have increased risk for dying in infancy. Low rates of breast feeding results as lack of good nutrition to mother, which is the precursor for diseases like diarrhea, asthma, cholera, other respiratory illnesses.
Behavioral and functional health of the children are also affected. As the kids in poorer conditions may experience developmental delay it results in poor mental health , speech and hearing problems ,etc.Behavioural problems may be in kids in lower socioeconomic groups as they donot get formal schooling , access to learning and their cognitive development is not matured.
In school age kids important environmental factor leading to illness is lack of access to physical activity. When the school age children are concentrating in indoor activities because of advancement in technologies like electronic gadgets like mobile , internet and video games they donot use their calories which may result in a huge problem OBESITY which is a precursor to DIABETES MELLITUS , HYPERTENSION. CARDIAC PROBLEMS and RENAL DISORDERS.
