1. Why have human population sizes increased dramatically in the last several hundred years? Select all that apply.
A. genetic mutations
B. advances in medicine
C. agricultural advances
D. expansion of biodiversity in cities
E. building housing in a wide array of habitat types
2. As the size of the worldwide human population has increased, there has been a decrease in which of the following?
A. carbon dioxide emissions
B. fossil fuel use
C. water shortages
D. biodiversity
3. Abiotic factors that affect population growth and demographics are also referred to as which of the following?
A. density-dependent factors
B. density-independent factors
C. density-unrelated factors
D. density-diversity factors
1.B.Advances in medicine
C.Agricultural advances
Overpopulation is a conditions that arises when the increase in the number of individuals exceeds the carrying capacity of the earth. Some of the factors responsible for population rise include increase in births and decrease in mortality rates, advances in medical facilities, increase in immigration, lack of education etc
2. D.Biodiversity
As the population size increases , there is an increase in fossil fuel usage. carbon dioxide emission and increase in water shortage. The increased demand for resources such as food and other fuels as population size increases, results in biodiversity degradation and hence a loss in biodiversity
3. B. Density independent factors
Density independent factors are those factors that influence population growth regardless of population density. These are typically physical or abiotic factors that are unrelated to the size of the population. Examples include natural disasters, temperature, level of Oxygen in the atmosphere etc
