You MUST DISCUSS SOME CASES TO GET CREDIT. Opinions without solid bases don't get good grades. Effective argument and research get As.
This is a bioethics and law class so some good topics:
1. What are sperm donor rights/ Responsibilities.
2. What are egg donor rights/responsibilities?
3. What are surrogate mother rights/responsibilities?
4. What are health care providers rights/responsibilities in providing assistance with reproduction as in how many eggs should one transfer? Can one ever say "NO" to prospective parents (e.g. parents who are "too old" or who want particular genetic traits in their children)?
5 What are the rights of LGBTQ parents (remember - Marriage is now legal in America between same gendered couples). Should the parent who carried the child have "more rights?" Why? Why not?
6. Is a person ever "too old" to become a parent? Why, why not?
7. I bet you can think of more.
Ans 1) Sperm Donor Responsibility
The true sperm donors need to do the process of insemination through a licensed doctor. There are some things that a sperm donor must know. The donor has no right on the child born due to artificial insemination. The child likewise also has no right or obligation on interest with the donor. Sperm donor does not have any legal right on the child and has the right to be maintained anonymous.
Ans 2) Egg Donor Responsibility are vast and requires lot of scrutiny before donation. There are some responsibilities for the egg donors like they need to undergo blood test to understand hormone level and analysis of any inherited disease. There must be complete psychological screening required. There are couple of injections for hormones like gonadotropins which helps in stimulating ovaries that helps in producing more than one egg. It is required for the donor to stay away from intercourse for the time being.
Ans 3) The surrogate mother are the legal mother but they can transfer their rights after giving birth to the child. The mother has the right to keep the child unless they sign documents and allow transfer of the child to the parents. The surrogate mothers are entitled to leaves like any other pregnant woman.
Ans 4) The assisted reproduction technologies has helped in resolving the issue of infertility. The health providers have the complete right to make an assessment and analyse the complete situation before transferring the eggs. A complete examination needs to be done before egg transfer which helps in finding eggs required for conceiving and fertilisation. They have the right to say no to prospective parents if there is a harm or there is racism in case of seeking a child with genetic superiority.
Ans 5) LGBT marriages is legal in US now and hence one must understand their parenting rights. The parents can adopt children or raise children through means of surrogacy, artificial insemination and other technology based methods.
Ans 6) At times having a old and becoming a parent at a very old age is a problem. If one is planning to give birth to a child, the body might not support the complete care that is required for proper development of the baby. Through artificial insemination process, it is possible to become parents at old age but there might be complications.
