Distinguish passive-mediated transport, primary active transport, ABC transport, and secondary active transport.

Solutions

Expert Solution

PASSIVE MEDIATED TRANSPORT is the mvement of ions and other molecular substance that of cell membrane with out any need of energy input.

PRIMARY ACTIVE TRANSPORT is that the energy is directry taken from the breakdown of ATP.As active transport is usually associated with accumulating high concentration of molecules that the cell needs like ions, glucose and amino acids. If the process uses chemical energy it is called primary mediated transport.

ABC TRANSPORT is the largest and is the possible one of the oldest families with the representation in all the extant phyla from prokaryotes to humans and is the ATP binding cassette transporters.

SECONDARY ACTIVE TRANSPORT is that type of transport where the molecules are transported across the cell membrane that utilizing the energy in the forms other than ATP. And this energy comes from the electrochemical gradient created by pumping of ions out of the cells.

Options are in parenthesis: In (primary or secondary) active transport, one species of solute moves (with or against) its electrochemical gradient, allowing a different species to move (with or against) its own electrochemical gradient. This movement is in contrast to (primary or secondary) active transport, in which all solutes are moved (with or against) their concentration gradients, fueled by ATP.
