Describe the tradeoffs inherent in receiving surveillance data transmissions once per day (i.e., batch transmission) vs. real-time. Consider tradeoffs from the perspectives of alert timeliness, human/system resources required, and infrastructure.
Surveillance Data Transmission-Trade Off
Batch transmission or once per day transmission of surveillance
data creates issues on alert timeliness. Since availability or
collection of data is running in a batch basis, the ability of the
surveillance to be alert under various situations reduces as it
lacks real time functioning. That creates limitations even in the
intentions of the surveillance to be accurate and alert. Also, that
limits the ability to react accordingly to fraud, observed in the
surveillance. Real time transmissions take the advantages of alert
timeliness since the transmission is observed moreover live.
Updating continuously with the movement of time reduce the chances
of missing an alert given by the surveillance and make the process
efficient and trouble free.
Batch transmission requires less human or system resources. Since
the data is collected only once in a period, the efforts needed is
less when compared to that of the real time transmissions. But, at
the time of transmission the effort combines and become more than
that of the real time transmission. The need of regular analysis
and concern is less in the case of batch transmission and high in
case of the real time one. Being updated continuously, the real
time transmission demand better care and continuous efforts when
compared to the batch transmission. The need of resources is high
since the function is live always. Batch transmission demands only
few resources since the transmission is done only once in a
period.
Batch transmission requires less infrastructure since the
transmission is required only once in a period. The channels for
the data to be updated regularly demands better infrastructure in
the case of real time transmissions. For free and efficient
transfer of data demand advanced technology that does not interrupt
the continuous flow of data through the channels. Since the working
of real time transmission is continuous, the infrastructure used to
be of better quality and high efficient. Channels can be through
internet or other mediums which will again increases the need of
better infrastructure for real time transmissions when compared to
the batch type.
The feature of continuous performance of real time transmission costs better and demands higher infrastructure for efficient and effective transmission of data with less strain.
