Public health nurse and their partners can apply healthy people in healthy communities. The U.S. DHHS (2001) presented this document in an attempt to enlist communities to apply the healthy people initiatives to ensure a healthy population locally. A healthy community is defined as one that embraces the belief that health is more than merely an absence of disease; a healthy community include those element that enable people to maintain a high quality of life and productivity. To become a healthy community and to implement healthy people 2020 , the public health nurse and members of the community must work together using multiple strategies. One such strategy is to use MAP-IT, a mnemonic for mobilze assess plan implement and track. MAP-IT is a broader application of the nursing process . In addition to assessment , diagnosis, planning , implemention, evaluation. The MAP-IT process include the critical step of moblization which sets the stage for coalition , colloboration and stared decision making to occur. Working together in groups therefore, allows individuals a goal and ultimally achieve their vision and shared decision making. In this case the vision is a healthier community.

The next step in MAP IT technique is to assess the community of interest. They are a number of ways to assess a communuty, both qualitative and quantitative. What is important that assessment is the collection of data to identify the priority need of the community. Thise who have been mobilized including the community participnts must look at the data colected and identify whether the issue are in line with one or more if the topic area listed in healthy peope 2020. If yes, the community member can use the healthy people2020 as a guide for the develooment of initiative. If the issue is not identified as a topic area in healthy people, the systematic process to still the valuable for the achievement of positive health outcome. Once am issue is identified the mobilized group move on to the third step, the development of the plan. The plan takes into consideration resources such as finding, people, technology, method of communication and time. Who is responsible for which portion ofthe plan it is very important to include the community participant in the development of this plan. As being inclusive accounts for the various social, political, economics and culture factor that affect the plan. Successful plan are culturally congruent with the values, the belief and the need of the population and are based in evidence. Plan development use the intervention strategy found on the intervention wheel.

The next step in the MAP IT technique is to implement the plan. Again clear communication between and among all members is important so that every member knows who is responsible for which activities. For this communication to be efffective, one must remember there is no power over in a coalition only power with. The application of technique to reach polulation is critical to consider in the implementation phase. And the technology applied must be appropriate for the population question. Methods for tracking progress during the implementation process are also important to consider.

The final step in MAP IT is to track progress and evaluate movement toward the outcome. Sharing success is critical if there is a need to improve, then all members of the group including community members must analyze but transpired. Public health nurse must become familiar with the healthy people 2020.
