Ms. Jones was a rushed admission to your floor and delivered a SGA infant in respiratory distress. The infant was immediately taken to the NICU. The nurse taking care of Ms. Jones informs you that her patient has track marks on her arms and she is not starting signs of withdrawal.

It is the duty of the nurse to inform the doctor about the conditions or dangers the patient has, so that the doctor can take appropriate measures and treatment modalities based on such history of patient

The first thing the patient seeking drugs will do is ask other nurses for getting a drug or pain medication. So it is always necessary to inform every other nurses in charge of that area so that they won't give her what she need.
