You are convinced that biology graduates from University X are smarter than chemistry graduates. What steps would you take to investigate this using the scientific method?

Solutions

Expert Solution

First of all,

Biology :-- It is the study of living things and various phenomenons and facts.

Chemistry :-- It deals with Chemical Reactions occurring in our surroundings.

->1● Now Biology students have to deal with Living as well as some of its chemistry and facts which they note carefully. Here various prinicipals and theories are there which are based on Facts after observing things carefully.

But in Chemistry , Students need to perform various chemical and then testing of these and again and again this same step is applied. It is just kind of Trial and error method.

2● Biology students have good observing skills and observes facts and prepare theories on these basis. But Chemistry students first need a Lab then they perform it.

Actually both are good. But if Question is which one is best ??

Then On basis of above facts must say Biology one will be smarter because it has some part of chemistry as well as Facts, theories and good observing skills.

Assume that 40% of graduates come from University A and and earn salaries of 30,000 on average with a standard deviation of 5,000. The remainder come from University B and earn salaries of 25,000 on average with a standard deviation of 7,500. If you are told that a graduate is earning less than 35,000, what is the probability that they came from University A? (Assume salaries are normally distributed.)

Are you smarter than your older brother? In a study of birth order and intelligence, IQ tests were given to 18- and 19-year-old men to estimate the size of the difference, if any, between the mean IQs of firstborn sons and secondborn sons. The following data for 10 firstborn sons and 10 secondborn sons are consistent with the means and standard deviations reported in the article.
