The global pregnancy period begins on the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP) and ends 6 weeks after delivery. In what ways does this bundling make sense for both the patient and the third party payer? Be sure to explain your answer.
THE PREGNANCY PERIOD IS CLASSIFIED AS ANTEPARTUM, INTRAPARTUM AND POSTPARTUM . THE GLOBAL PREGNANCY BUNDLE INCLUDES THE ANTEPARTUM CARE ,ADMISSION TO LABOR AND DELIVERY,FETAL MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT OF LABOR, DELIVERY, UNCOMPLICATED POSTPARTUM CARE UNTIL 6 WEEKS AFTER DELIVERY. THE PACKAGE CAN BE SPLIT IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE IF THE PATIENT HAS THE CHANGE OF THE INSURER DURING HER PREGNANCY, IF SHE HAS GOT A PART OF THE ANTENATAL CARE FROM SOME OTHER GROUP,IF SHE LEAVES YOUR GROUP EVEN BEFORE THE COMPLETION OF THE PACKAGE, IN THE CASE OF TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY WITHOUT DELIVERY.
THE ONLY DISADVANTAGE OF THIS PACKAGE TO THE PATIENT BUT WOULD BE PROFITABLE TO THE THIRD PARTY PAYER IS THAT LABORATORY TESTS, DIAGNOSTIC ULTRASOUND, AMNIOCENTESIS,CORDOCENTESIS, CHORIONIC VILLI SAMPLING,FETAL STRESS TEST AND FETAL NON-STRESS TEST ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE AND MUST BE REIMBURSED SEPARATELY.
