United nation is the most powerful intergovernmental organisation who has a multidimensional role in maintaining international peace and security in the world. This organisation was created after the second world war in 1945 in order to prevent any war like situation in the future by various resolutions and policies. Maintaining world wide peace and saving the future generation from the dangerous consequences of war are the topmost priority of the Organisation. In order to execute the organisation's purpose effectively, it has been divided into six principal organs. These are- General Assembly, Security Council, Trusteeship Council, Economic and Social Council, International court of justice, and the UN Secretariat.The main purpose of the organisation are as follows-

1) In order to maintain Universal peace in the world, this organisation tries to develop friendly relation among nations on the basis of principle of equal right of every people.

2) It tries to solve international problems created among nations due to social, economic, cultural and political reasons by developing international co operation among the nations and promoting the principle of sovereign equality of all the members.

3) United nations provides the platform to the conflicting countries by bringing them together in order to prevent any future international friction and giving solution for their problems.

4) It also promotes equal human rights and fundamental freedom to every people irrespective of their caste, creed, sex, religion and nationality etc.

The Existence of United Nation is very important as long as it maintains peace and prosperity of the world. The organisation tries to develop friendliness relation among all nations which might prevent developing any bitterness among all nations. It has provided equal common laws and regulations for all nations which protects the principle of sovereign equality. It discourages countries to indulge in any form of using nuclear weapons, chemical weapons etc which are hazardous to the human lives. It also ensures that no nation breaks the international rules set by the Organisation which might cause threat to the world peace. Global disarmament and arms limitations are also part of UN's peacekeeping mission. Besides, combating terrorism, sexual violence in conflicts, alleviating poverty and malnutrition, reducing the gender disparity gap etc are some main targets of the organisation by which it tries to build a more secured world for the human being. Economic development, Promoting well being of women and children,Improving global trade by supporting industries etc are some of the agenda of the organisation for the development of a better world which would not have been possible without its efforts. So It is very important to have a organisation like UN to exist in the present world.
