Include genus and species names (i.e. binomial nomenclature) and common names whenever possible.
Remember that a vector also has a genus and species name.
Also name the disease and describe it, including the signs and symptoms associated with it.
1. Choose one of the many mosquito (vector) borne illnesses to describe. Describe any other animals that may be part of the infectious pathway.
2. Choose one of the many tick (vector) borne illnesses to describe. Describe any other animals that may be part of the infectious pathway.
Answer :
1)
DISEASE- DENGUE FEVER.
Causative agent - FLAVI VIRUS DENGUE VIRUS
VECTOR - AEDES AEGYPTI
common name - mosquito
INFECT - HOMO SAPIENS - human beings
Other host - Macaca Mulatta
Common name - rhesus monkey
Dengue fever is a mosquito born tropical disease by dengue virus. At first its supposed to be spread from monkeys to humans by aedes aegypti mosquito. Incubation period is 3 to 14 days.
Dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome are 3 different types of disease.

It shows low platelet and WBC count. Petechial hemorrhages can be seen. Hypotension and high grade fever can be observed. Ig card tests based on IgM can detect dengue fever.
Treatment is supportive with platelet transfusion if indicated.
Clinical history is enough for diagnosis.
2)
Disease - LYME DISEASE
VECTOR - IXODES SCAPULARIS
Common name - tick
Causative agent - BORRELIA BURGDORFERI
Other organism - CANIS LUPUS FAMILIARIS
Common name - DOG
Lyme disease is by borrelia burgdorferi transmitted by ixodes ticks.
Full covering clothes and DEET insect repellent are used for prevention.
Incubation period is 1 to 2 weeks.
Symptoms are rash and fever.
Initial sign is erythema migrans at site of tick bite. Rash appears. There is early disseminated and late disseminated infections.
Diagnosis is clinical with EM rash.
IgG and IgM can diagnose disease. Confirmed by ELISA.
Antibiotics is the primary treatment.
