Discuss the following at depth: sonic washer unit, washer-disinfector, and manual cleaning.
Sonic washer unit: In sonic washing, ultrasound with 20-40KHz uses to wash along with specific solvent and water depends upon the type of soil and the material. It lasts about 3-6 minutes and can exceed upto 20 min depends on the materialIt mainly use cavitation bubbles induced by high frequency pressure waves to remove stain from plastics, ceramics, rubber and glasses. This also penitrates the blind holes, cracks and recesses.
In ultrasonic cleaning, cleaning objects are placed in a chamber where a transducer connected. The transducer produces ultrasonic waves and this creates compression waves in the liquid which creates vacuum bubbles. These bubbles along with high temperature hit the stains and removes it.As the frequency increases ,the smaller dirts are removed. There is no need for harsh chemicals for the cleaning.
Washer-disinfecter-: A washer-disinfecter- us used as an automatic cleaner and disinfector which mainly used for cleaning instruments in practices, dental clinics, medical center's and hospitals. The processes involved in washer disinfector are cleaning, neutralizing, disinfecting and drying.
During the cleaning and neutralizing process,it washes the soil from the surface of the utensils and does not use any detergents or sanitise. While disinfecting,it uses moist heat and decontaminate the surface of the utensils for a specific time. The last cycle is drying where the utensils are dried with flash evaporation of residual moisture and keep ready for the use.
Manual cleaning -: Manual cleaning is the physical removal of visible soil for its its handling of further actions.Manual cleaning is mainly used in patient care area and surgical cleaning area. It is important to remove the soils from the instruments as it further cause infection to patients. Also, before mechanical cleaning, instruments should be cleaned. It consists of presoaking where soils are loosened before washing, followed by washing and then lubricating instruments.
