Answer
The two disorders that could produce extreme thirst and
increased urine frequency are :
- Diabetes mellitus
- Diabetes insipidus
To determine the disorder
:
- Diabetes mellitus : clinician may perform Blood sugar tests
such as Random blood sugar and fasting blood sugar with post
prandial blood sugar. Increase blood glucose levels indicate the
presece of diabetes mellitus.
- Diabetes insipidus : Water deprivation test may be perfomed
with the test for blood levels of anti-diuretic hormone. When the
patient is restricted for fluid intake, ADH hormone is secreted to
compensate water lrequirement. Blood tests shall reveal the
deficiency of this hormone and presence of diabetes insipidus.
Other body systems that are being affected includes,
- Cardiovascular
system : Blood pressure fluctuations due to fluid
loss.
- Kidneys :
Glucose may be detected in urine and increased work for kidneys may
lead to nephropathy.
- GI tract :
Digestion is affected due to vagus nerve damage in case of high
blood sugar levels.
