A CSTR is used in production of A → R Feed enters the reactor at a rate of vo(L/s), and the concentration of the reactant in the feed is CAo (mol A/L) The volume of the tank is V(L). Assume that the process is a well-mixed process, so that the concentration of A in product stream equals that in the tank. For this process, the rate of consumption of A equals kCA[mol/ (s L of reaction volume)] Assume that all fluids (feeds, tank contents and product) have the same density, ρ(g/L).
Write differential balance on total mass and mole of A, expressing the balances in term of the variables shown on the diagram below.

Solutions

Expert Solution

CSTR(Continous stirred tank reactor) is areactor runs at steady state with continous flow of reactants and products.Feed assumes a uniform composition throughout the reactor, exit stream has the same composition as in the tank.

Ethane (C2H6) is combusted in 18.1% excess oxygen (O2) in an adiabatic reactor. The feed of ethane enters the reactor at 25.8 mol/hr and 93.7°C. The stream exiting the reactor contains ethane, oxygen, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and water (H2O), so ethane reacts by both complete and partial combustion reactions. The conversion of ethane is 15.8% and the conversion of oxygen is 12.3%. Assume that pressure effects are negligible. (a) Draw and label a process flow diagram. Number...

US corn production is used primarily to feed cattle and hogs to produce meat for human consumption and to produce biofuels. Suppose the demand for corn as livestock feed is given by: Qfeed=24.5-4P ,where quantities are in billions of bushels and the price, P, is in dollars. The US government mandates that a fixed percentage of US gasoline be blended with ethanol-based biofuel. Assume this mandate fixes the total quantity of corn used for domestic fuel production at 10.5 m....
