Draw two figures, one figure showing the arrangement of the various cell types found in xylem tissue of angiosperms. Show how they are stacked and packed with soft and strong support cells. In the xylem figure include: 4 vessel element cells (label perforations and pits), 3 parenchyma, 5 sclerenchyma fiber cells.
In the second figure show of the various cell types found in phloem tissue. In the phloem tissue figure include: 4 sieve tube cells, 4 companion cells, 3 parenchyma cells, 2 sclerenchyma fibers and 2 sclerenchyma sclerid cells.
Indicate which cells are alive at maturity, which have a secondary cell wall and function of the cells during water and sugar transport in both figures.
Q) Figure -1 structure of xylem shoewing vessel element cells , parenchyma, sclerenchyma.
Fig-2 Structure of phloem showing- sieve tube cells , companion cells , parenchyma cell, sclerenchyma scleride and fibre cells .
Fig-3 showing function of cells during water and sugar transport in both xylem and phloem.
Phloem tissues are alive at the time of maturity, xylem are dead. .
in both cells secondary growth is there.
in xylem uni -directional flow occurs , but in phloem conduction is bi-directional.
Xylem transports water and soluble mineral nutrients from roots to various parts of the plant. It helps in replacing water lost by transpiration and photosynthesis. Phloem translocates sugars made by photosynthesis to storage organs like roots, tubers or bulbs.
