during the summer of 2012,a 42 year old woman comes into the emergency room outside Yosemite National park complaining of a fever, headache, nausea, and severe respiratory symptoms. She explains a week ago she was vacationing in a remote cabin in Yosemite. She noticed animal waste in the cabin she cleaned the area. She fwlt fine until earlier this morning. A. What microbe do you suspect, Why? B. How would you treat the patient? C. Define and describe the signs and symptoms of this diease.
(A)We suspect 'Hantavirus' which is carried in rodent feces,
urine that dries out and mixes with dust that can be inhaled by
humans, especially in small, confined spaces with poor
ventilation.
- when woman comes into Yosemite National park,she stay in a remote
cabin in Yosemite.
- She noticed animal waste in the cabin she cleaned the area and
inhaled dust.
(B) TREATMENT:-
-There is no specific treatment, cure, or vaccine for hantavirus
infection.
-In Respiratory distress shift Patient into intensive care.
- In ICU, patients are intubated and given oxygen therapy to help
them from distress.
(C) SIGN AND SYMPTOMS:-
(i) Early symptoms:-
-fever,chills
- fatigue and muscle ache(large muscle groups
thighs, hips, back and shoulders)
- Headache and dizziness
- nausea, Vomiting nd diarrhoea.
(ii) Late symptoms:- (after 4-10 days):-
-cough
-shortness of breath
-chest tightness
- difficulty in breathing.
