The Bhopal disaster which is also known as the Bhopal Gas tragedy
took place in the year 1984 on the night of 2nd December at the
union carbide India Limited pesticide plant in Bhopal Madhya
Pradesh India. It is known as among the world's worst industrial
disaster because over 5 lakh people were exposed to methyl
isocyanide which is a highly toxic substance which made its way
into the small towns located near the plant. The official death
count by the government of India was 3700. The Government of Madhya
Pradesh has paid and compensation to the family of around 3700
victims killed in the gas release and approximately 6 lakh injured
victims.
The owner of the factory UCIL was majority owned by the Indian
government control bank and the Indian public holding which had
49.1 share in it.
The consequence of this incidence was that soon after the accident,
representatives from different activist group arrived and it worked
on organizing the gas victim which led to violent repression from
the police and the government. Several actions have been performed
in form of demonstration, mergers combined with templates, an
article. Often these include versus around the old Bhopal ending
with the burning and effigy of Warren Anderson who was held
responsible for this incidence. In the year 1989 UCC(union carbide
Corporation) paid an amount equivalent to 845 million dollars in
2018 to settle the legislation stemming from the disaster.
