There are generally five factors which determined whether a story is newsworthy, To get the approval from the editor there are atleast two out of five factors must be there in the story, As most important demand of a story is to get the approved as some stories can be delayed until a new slot becomes available, time-sensitive news will often be dropped permanently.

So the factors are:

Timing: the story must be latest and related to current happening as people like to have the latest updates and old stories are generally not able to have the effect on the consumers. Therefore to make the news sensational it should be publish as soon as possible.

  • Significance: story must have significant impact on the people at large, means a large no. of people should relates themselves with the news story.
  • Proximity: The story must be about the area around the audience means the story must be about the place near to the homes of the audience, more geographic distance about the story makes it lesser interested among the people.
  • Prominence: Story must relate with the prominent personalities, which makes the story more famous and a huge no. of people got interested in the news.
  • factor of Conflict or Controversy: story must have the factor of controversy or conflict, as this bring drama in the story and make it more interested among the people and it allows the people to have different opinions about the matter of concern
