Discuss the importance of advocacy as it pertains to patient care. What is the nurse's role in patient advocacy? Describe a situation in which you were involved with patient advocacy. Explain what the advocacy accomplished for the patient, and what the repercussions would have been if the patient would not have had an advocate.?
Patient advocacy is the area of specialisation of health care professionals to advocate for the rights and demands of patients. Theor dealing is with specific disorder patients. The concerns are typical as for patient's rights, patient's privacy, patient's representation or education of patients, etc. Advocacy helps patients to fight for their rights and correct demands from the system.
Nurses have their first commitment to the patients. So they promote the advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient. Considering an example where the pediatric nurse wants to avoid the shifting of a little boy to another hospital in the time of floods. This advocacy done by a nurse was accepted by the doctor, who considered her talk and cancelled the shifting. If such things wouldn't happen, there would have been a bad result on that little boy..
Such advocacy by nurses towards or for her patient, has proven the care plan or commitment of nurses towards patients
