What are reasonable outcomes for the patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)?
The severity of COPD is difficult to asses. COPD has been recently recognized as systemic diseases and its systemic demonstration such as weight loss, muscle weakness are poorly related to lung function. Therfore, althought lung function remain as important outcome. Other outcomes must be included in any overall assessment of the disease severity or respond to intervention. Examples includes refinement of spirometry such as inspiratory capacity, functional outcomes.
