Invitro conservation is the alternative and safe approach to store the genetic resources of endangered plants on large scale in small space and hassle free for future needs. Justify the statement with appropriate answer.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Invitro conservation is a technique of conservation where a part of plant is stored for future use from where we can reproduce the whole plant again.

  • Genetic resources: The plants are generally stored for genetic resouce it is important because if that plant species got extinct or genetically mutated, then this stored sample can be use and hervast again and thus we can restore that plant species.
  • Saving the endangered species: If the plant species in account as endangered specis, then we can save that species by invitro conservation and reproducing them in large scal in small space and it will be useful because the plant genetic alteration can not take place as we are making them clone,so genetic change will not occur.
  • Future Use: If we will store the plants invitro in cryo preservation then we can use them and also reproduce them in near future when it will be necessary or we need them.

You are working on a conservation farm with an endangered species of antelope in central Colorado. You notice that birth weight of offspring seems to correlate with air temperature, but that the relationship is not as strong in females as in males. You wonder why that could be. a) What is your testable hypothesis? b) Design an experiment to test that hypothesis. c) What is your null hypothesis? d) Describe the type of data you will get from the experiment....

Imagine you are a conservation manager in New York City, trying to protect an endangered squirrel. How would you design a reserve system that would help the squirrel, but also work in the context of the city? What are key things to consider, based on your knowledge of island biogeography?

research conservation efforts “Endangered species in Canda,” Are any species likely to be extinct within the next 50 years? Pick one conservation effort and evaluate published reports. Is it likely that the species will recover and what are the major obstacles to overcome in order to achieve species preservation? Provide suggestions for research to be conducted for better management, as well as changes to management to improve odds of recovery for the species.

IDS Bonus 1 A controversial practice in conservation is the collecting of DNA from endangered animals and keeping it safe in various institutions so as to have a "stored bank" in case the animal goes extinct. One such project is the Frozen Ark Project. The "mission of the Frozen Ark Project is to collect, preserve and store tissue, gametes, viable cells and DNA from endangered animals. The project focuses on the thousands of animals that are threatened with extinction. Animal...

Individual Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs), Safe Harbor Agreements (group HCP’s) and Natural Communities Conservation Plans (regional NCCPs) have created a great deal of controversy. Why? Do you think HCP’s in general are a good or bad idea? Why? Consider that for candidate species, listing is sometimes delayed if state and local agencies demonstrate that adaptive management practices are in place to improve the chances of survival and recovery for species. If HCP’s, Safe Harbor Agreements and NCCPs are going to...

Leopold was clearly offering an alternative definition of, and orientation for, conservation. Though it sounds simplistic, for Leopold, conservation required the establishment of a state of harmony between humans and nature, which implied a commitment to two principles: that we strive to understand how the natural world functions; and that we practice precaution in our use of the natural world. These two principles are well reflected in the following excerpts from a couple of Leopold’s better known essays. Health is...
