User Nancy got phished from her Internet provider. She unfortunately provided her account e-mail ID and password in a response to an e-mail she received that stated her e-mail account would be deleted if she failed to provide her account ID and password. She then discovered that everyone in her e-mail address book, including her mother-in-law, got an e-mail saying that Nancy was in Nigeria and needed $2,000 or she would be sent to jail. The phishers used her address book to send the e-mail to everyone.

According to Nancy, it became a running joke for others, but it was not a joke for her because her e-mail account, which was her lifeline and a link to so many different people, was sabotaged.

  1. What should Nancy have done when she realized that her e-mail account had been compromised?
  2. What are some of the telltale signs of a phishing e-mail that would have alerted Nancy to the danger?
