In today's market, a business is nothing without an accompanying Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram account - right? Consider how you, as an employee, engage in social media with your own company. How do you handle the pitfalls of "liking" your company yet trying to keep your private life private?
I, as an employee engage in social
media platforms with my own company in different ways. The company
has created different informal groups in social media platforms
such as Facebook and LinkedIn among the others. We as the employees
are the members of these groups. Here, I can post my status update
and it is not necessarily the official content, but it is intended
to be shared with the other employees. It strengthens the bonding
among the employees. The group also shows the latest promotions or
exclusive for employee offers, incentive program and other rewards
to motivate us as employees. The second way is to engage with the
social media content created and promoted by the company. My
sharing of the content, spreads into my own friends list and so on
the message communicates in social media. Though, the message
forwarding id totally up to me and my company has never forced me
directly or indirectly to do so. Since my growth is aligned with
the growth of the company, so I do it if I like the offer or
content updated by the company.
Liking my company profile, page and other social media activities,
causes the posts and other content to come to my news feed or my
personal profile. Besides, I also receive the notification. Here,
using the settings of the social media platform, I can switch off
the notification, block or hide the tweet and can limit the posts
coming to the news feed. In this way, the infringement to the
personal or private life is limited. But, engaging in social media
with the company related content, does not mean that there is
infringement to my private life. Company only posts the content
that is useful for the people in the form of different stakeholders
and the company in general never intends to breach the privacy
unless it requires the person to respond to the urgent attention.
For this purpose, the company can call any employee , including me
to meet the contingency requirements.
