describe the strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of electronic health records
The following are some strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of electronic health records (EHR) :
1. Ease of
use: The use of any implemented system like the EHR
is critical for its application and adaptation for the
organization. If the system is easy to use not only by the
physicians but also the support staff, it can be very helpful and
effective.
2. Compliance to
industry standards: The healthcare industry has one
of the important guidelines and standards to maintain patient
safety and effective care. So if the EHR is compliant of the
Federal health laws and HIPAA laws we can ensure that the data and
edical records do not violate any health related rules and comply
leading to a better care and management
3. Effective
integration with organizational work process: The
integration of any system like the EHR into the current system is
critical to its success or failure. If not properly integrated it
can be an obstacle in the working and an inconvenience that can
affect patient care and management adversely.
4. Patient
management: Patient management is one of the key
elements in effectiveness of EHR. managing the patient heath
records, treatment schedules, prescription data and health summary
and progress can be very helpful for the physician in patient
management and addressing the progress related issues and patient
safety and health.
5. Time saving and
management: By implementing the EHR we essentially
intend to save precious time of reviewing the traditional records
and then decide the further course of action. By using the EHR
which is instantly available one can take critical medical
decisions and provide optimal and effective care without loosing
time. This also helps in in patient management and effective
understanding of the patient's status and plan care management.
