“Imagine that as through a PRECEDE needs assessment, we find that many young children in West San Antonio have been hospitalized recently, and this is very concerning to the community members who value the well-being of younger generations. We determine, through data collection and analysis, the reason for these hospitalizations: Measles, a highly infectious disease that can lead to hearing loss and brain damage...”

“Wait a minute!” an employee interrupts, “Why are we finding a measles outbreak when there's a vaccine against the measles.”

“That is exactly the right question to ask,” you say. “If there is currently a measles outbreak, that must mean not enough children are being vaccinated. We find out all of this information in different phases of PRECEDE.”

Using the response options below, match the correct PRECEDE phase with the data specified in the question prompt. You may use an answer more than once, or not at all.

____. Exposure to measles from infected community members. A. Phase 2

____. Children are not being vaccinated against the measles B. Phase 1

____. High measles incidence C. Phase 2

Solutions

Expert Solution

High measles incidence - Phase 1

In this case, high prevelance of measles in the childrens of West San Antonio has been identified as the prime health issue in the community.

Exposure to measles from infected community members - Phase 2

Rational: In the second phase of PRECEDE model, an epidemiological and environmental assessment of the health issue is conducted to find out the cause of occurance. In this case, it has been identified that people are getting infection from infected community members.

Children are not being vaccinated against the measles - Phase 2

Rational: In phase 2 of PRECEDE model, a behavirol diagnosis of different conditions are also being identified that are giving brith to different health conditions in the population. In this case, high prevelance of measles in the childrens of West San Antonio indicates the irresponsible behavirol aspect of the community that they are not getting their childrens vaccinated against the measles.
