Briefly describe examples of descriptive research and applied research about bullying in public schools. What sorts of things would be measured in descriptive and applied research on bullying?
**Basics of Research Methods for Criminal Justice and Criminology
Descriptive research is the type of research in which there occurs inputs by the researcher such that personal interpretation is provided by a researcher about a problem that is at hand, with additions of the method that is used by the researcher as well as social science as a supportive factor.
In order for a criminal justice researcher to understand the idea behind bullying, it is required that they would start at ground level, by schools, since bullying at school, can result in bullying at higher places such as universities followed up to the workplace.
- The researcher would observe and report his observations.
- after observations, the researcher needs to identify what kind of bullying is done, the people who are basically carrying out such activities along with identification of probable reasons for these bullying activities. It is important for them to figure out what things are instigating these children to bully other children or what is the driving force, rather than simply making a generalised conclusion about the reasons for the bullying behaviour.
- also, the researcher needs to interact with the victim and identify the type of bullying and the people doing these bullying actions to them.
- according to applied methodology, the researcher would identify patterns of bullying, keeping the primary reason as the baseline line, and trying to implement programs or teaching methodologies that would make these children understand that behaviours of bullying are not correct in their own self.
- programs would be designed and integrated with the identified children, and the students as a whole, such that the negative implications of bullying could be taught and elaborated and the idea that by,lying, due to any reason whatsoever is a wrong act, has to be explained to the students.
