Advocacy Strategy to Create Change

Advocacy involves effective and efficient steps in the implementation of change. As such advocacy strategy is the plan of action to help us achieve an end goal, change (Sofia Sprechmann, 2001).For an advocate to push for successful personal change or overall organizational change, he requires some fundamental skills, such as but not limited to influence and collaboration skills, creative and critical thinking skills, excellent communication skills, and above all significant problem-solving skills. As such I would highly capitalize on building my skills in those areas (Tomajan, 2012).

We are prone to changes in every society, and we must address them in order to succeed effectively. Salary increment, job promotion, excellent performance in school, and retrenchment are some of the changes we experience. This implies that change is inevitable for the success of an individual and the society. Even so, as change initiators, we need to look into appealing strategies that will ensure the successful creation of change in our workplaces. This paper gives insights into possible strategies to the successful creation of change.

I would begin by putting to good use my problem-solving skills, which will come in handy in identifying an issue or problem, for instance, under payment, which needs immediate attention of our organization. I would then go a step further to develop goals to address the looming issue. I would make sure the goals developed specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and above all timely bound.

Secondly, I would employ my communication skills by communicating with my superiors about the issue at hand. Provide them with a possible breakthrough in addressing the issue. If the organization does nothing, I would further talk with my colleagues about the looming problem (Brearly, 2013). Listen to their take keenly on the issue at hand and arrive at a way forward. After which I would, assess the situation if, most of them agree with me or not in a bid to ensure a successful advocacy. Since the benefits involved are greater than the risks, then it means it is a worthy course to see it through.

Thirdly, I would strongly influence my colleagues, by persuading them to join in the quest for the desired change. I would ensure that in the course of influencing my colleagues, I paint clearly the picture of the issue at hand. Make them understand that, the changeis not to satisfy my personal gains, but rather for the greater good of all the workers of the organization.

Lastly, collaborate with all colleagues who are for the change and go ahead to push for change. Collaboration may involve “go slows” in workplaces all to make our voices heard, and our demands met (Tomajan, 2012).

In conclusion, advocacy is vital to achieve a particular change. If advocacy is done in the right way to serve the legitimate purposes, it results in the desired change. Therefore, I will ensure that I apply the advocacy strategies addressed in the paper correctly in order to create change in my current workplace.
