COPD prevalence in the United States
COPD is a progressive Respiratory disease condition including Emphysema & Chronic Bronchitis characterized by obstruction of airflow.COPD is a important contributor to mortality & morbidity in United State.
According to CDC(center for disease control & prevention) in 2011,there are 15 million people suffered from COPD in united state.Among them 39% people are regular smoker.Among them 64.2% reported that it hampers their quality of life.55.6% taking regular medicine for COPD.
According to ALA(American Lung Association)in 2015 COPD was the 4th leading cause of death(after heart disease,cancer,unintentional accident). According to them it may be as much as 24 million people suffered from COPD.Women are in greater number then men.Among them 90% cases are caused by Smoking. Smoker Mens are 26 times more likely to die than non smoker men.& smoker women are 22 times more likely to die than non smoker women.Among 24 million affected person,51% reported on limited ability to work,50% having sleeping disturbances,53% having limited social activity,46% interfere in family activity.
NHIS(National health interview survey) survey a data of COPD from 2013 to 2017. They reported that among affected COPD,24% have never smoked.Among those non smoker COPD affected people 24%-53% cases are found from workplace exposure.
NHIS also gave a survey report on workplace exposure COPD.They reported that among 106 million worker,COPD prevalence are 2.4 million.Among them 24% are never smoked ,6.5% are 65 years above men & 3.0% are 65 Years women.
NHIS gave a statistical report depending on group variation.They reported that COPD is highly affected to Non Hispanic white Men(1.7%) & Non Hispanic Black women (3.7%)
