What role does hydrogen bonds play in making water an important life-sustaining component on the earth? (Hint: think about water transport along the tree and water supporting life under frozen water bodies).
Hydrogen bond in water is a weak attractive bond . Hydrogen bond provide many properties to water like cohesion (holding water molecules together),adhesions (water attraction with other substance ), high specific heat, high heat of vaporisation and solubility (polar molecules are attracted to ions and polar compound, hence soluble in water ) . Hydrogen bond is the reason for water being called universal solvent. Water is found in all 3 physical from due to hydrogen bond. Ice is lighter than water (liquid). Ice floats and insulates water dring frozen conditions. Below the frozen zone, water remains in liquid state. Water gets transport up to the tree due cohesion and adhesion property of water
