Antibiotics are one of the most highly utilized and important medication classes in medicine. Did you know that livestock animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens can receive antibiotics? Resistance to antibiotics is a growing concern, not only in humans but also in livestock animals. Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change in such a way that the effectiveness of drugs is reduced.
For your initial post, research antibiotic resistance further and address the following:
How does antibiotic resistance develop?
What complications can occur from antibiotic resistance, both in humans and in livestock?
Should we decrease the use of antibiotics in humans and livestock animals?
For your reply post, address the following question:
After reading your classmate's initial discussion post, research and report on an opposing view. After reviewing both positions, what are your thoughts?
1Antibiotics are commonly used to treat bacterial infections. They are amongthe most potent life saving interventions in all of medicines. When antibiotics are frequently used the bacteria may become resistant to that particular drug. The main reason is because of the frequent and improper use of antiibiotics.Antibiotic resistance has become apublic health concern as more and more bacterias become resistant to the drugs
2 it is one of the pressing public health problem. Antibiotic -resistant bcteria bred in livestock spread to humans by multiple routes.Resistant bacteria from animals are shed into soil and ground water, directly contaminate farm workers, who can spred this bacteria through human communities through fomites and direct contact and contaminate meat during the butchering process.Retail meats shows a high presence of Ecoli When we handle the meat before even properly cooked we also ingest antibiotic resistant bacteria.Livestocks when fed with antibiotics will kill many bacterias but resistant bacteria can survive and multiply.People will be likelyto be hospitalized and have higher medical expenses, may take longer to get well and even die from infection.
3 Antibiotics are proved effective in treating bacterial infections in animals, but decision must be made as to which antibiotics should be given to livestocks and how to use them.Animals should never be given antibiotics to improve feed efficiency or for growth promotion and can lead to drug resistance bacteria.Burt antibiotics can be effectively used for animals tat are sick, disease control for a group of animals when some of the animals are sick and for animals that are at risk of becoming sick.
