What role does "middle management" play in the overall performance of an organization and how vital are these personnel to the core function of the organization?
To the Core management team, the executive management team is very important whereas the middle level management forms the right hand and a supporting team of the Executive management without which the implementation of the broad overall goals of the Business is not possible. Middle level management has significant set of responsibilities and duties as against which it enjoys the status of a senior management position in the Company. To the Top-level management, the performance of middle level management ensures the accessibility of daily input of information that it avails from the lower management levels owing it to its regular involvement in the day-to-day operational activities of the Organization. It thereby aids in the cooperation of the worker class in the Organization with that of the ideas of the Top management hence making the Organization stand in solidarity. However, its core functions involves in comprehending the strategies of the Top management and to put into execution of the same to achieve the predetermined Organizational goals. In this regard, the role of Middle management is very essential. The personnel in the Middle management needs to put itself into the shoes of the Top management to understand their requirements from the employees and at the same time, being sensitive to the expectations of the workers such that it is able to justice to both the parties without diverting from the strategic implementation of the plans. Therefore their role is very crucial. These personnel need to posses reasonable amount of technical skills in order to ensure a better execution of the day-to-day operational activities in the Organization. Human resources skills are also in fact, very essential to them so as to keep leading the lower levels of management by motivating them and also by inspiring them with relevant examples. Further, it also needs to undertake the strategic functions of changing the flow of activities on the face of the altered circumstances and timely reporting of the same to the Top level management to make them desirable changes in the overall goals, if need be. From decision-making to creativity and from leadership to Performance management, these personnel are required to possess varied competencies in order efficient manage the workers team for execution of the actual plans. Hence, due to all these reasons, their role is very vital to the core function of the Organization.
