Prscription Analysis is a technique used to assess the quality, completeness and legibility of the presriptions made by the physicians, pharmacists etc. It can be conducted in the outpatient department, ward etc.Most of the time, in prescriptions abbreviations are used by the health care providers. This can contribute to serious misinterpretation and mistakes in the selection of drugs. Inorder to avoid that and to improve the quality of prescription practices prescription analysis techniques intiated.
Various things are analysed in a prescription analysis technique. they includes,patients name, age, diagnosis, his body weight, doctors name, date of prescription, patients clinical diagnosis,drug details such as generic name of drug, brand name of drug, dosage, route, frequency, duration of the drug,administartion time, the physicians name and signature etc.
Medication errors are the common medical errors happening in health care field. This can lead to severe health problems to the patients. The errors can develop during the time of prescibing, purchasing the drug, or administering the drug by the health care providers.Some times the prescription may be incomplete like absence of frquency, duration etc, and most of the time it will be difficult to read and understand the prescription. This is also a type of error that can happen.So it is very important to do a analysis of the presecription from time ti time inorder to avoid all these arrors and to improve health status of each individuals.
Early understanding of these errors will helps to avoid the medication errors in health care field and can provide comprahensive health care services to the patients. So a regular periodic analysis of the prescription is carried out. it is carried out as per the hospital policy. Each hospitals may have their own quality evaluation team to carry out these activities. Periodic corrections are given on the basis o analysis to the physicians and pharmacists inorder to improve their services.
