Business intelligence ( BI) leverages tools and services to turn information into actionable knowledge that inform the strategic and operational business decisions of an enterprise. In papers, summaries, dashboards, graphs , charts and maps, BI tools view and interpret data sets and present analytical results to provide users with accurate intelligence about the state of the enterprise. The word market intelligence most also refers to a variety of resources focused on available data that provide fast, easy-to - digest access to insights into the current state of an enterprise.

Reporting is a key facet of market intelligence, and maybe the archetypal BI tool is the dashboard. Dashboards are hosted web programmes that dynamically compile available knowledge into charts and graphs that provide a sense of the company's immediate situation. Although business intelligence does not inform business users what to do or what will happen if they take a certain path, BI is not all about news, either. Instead, by streamlining the work required to find, merge and query the data needed to make rational business choices, BI gives people a way to analyse data to understand patterns and extract insights.

Self-service business intelligence, a group of BI software aimed at abstracting the need for IT interference in producing reports, has given rise to the push to make it easy for just about everyone to get valuable knowledge from business intelligence tools. Self-service BI instruments allow companies to make the internal data reports of the corporation more readily accessible to management and other non-technical workers.

Market intelligence dashboards and UIs that provide pull-down menus and intuitive drill-down points that allow users to identify and turn data in easy-to - understand ways are among the keys to self-service BI performance. There is no question that a certain amount of preparation will be needed, but if the benefits of the tools are clear enough, workers will be willing to get on board.
