What is the "octet rule" and what role does it play in Lewis structures. Use the octet rule to predict Lewis structures for a few simple molecules such as ammonia (NH3), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), ethane (C2H6), ethylene (C2H4) or acetylene (C2H2).

it states that every atom wants to have eight valence electrons in its outermost electron shell
in other word we can state that they want to acquire inert gas configuration.
they acquire 8 electron in valence shell either by sharing of electrons or loss of electron or gain of electron
In writting lewis configuration we distribute or share electrons such that each atom have 8 electron in there valence shell
