Which of the following is a type 1 error?
a. When H0is true and H0 is accepted
b. When Hais true and H0 is accepted
c. When H0is true and Ha is accepted
d. When Hais true and Ha is accepted
SOLUTION : Option C is correct.
When Ho is true and Ha is accepted.
The inductive inference consist in arriving at a decision to accept or reject the null hypothesis (Ho) after inspecting only a sample from it as such element of risk-risk of taking wrong decision is involved. In any test procedure the four possible mutually disjoint and exhaustive decision are
I) Reject Ho when actually it's not true. i.e Ho is false
II) Accept Ho when it's true.
III) Reject Ho when it's true.
IV) Accept Ho when it's false.
The decision in (I) And (II) are correct decision while the decision (III) and (IV) are wrong decision
Thus , in testing of hypothesis we are likely to commit two types of errors.
Type I error :
The Error of rejecting Ho when Ho is true is known as type I error.
The error has been commited if we Reject the null hypothesis when it's true.
i.e. we accepted the alternative hypothesis when it's Ho is truetrue
Answer - When Ho is true and Ha is accepted.
Option C is correct.
