OREM THEORY -

As per Orem "Nursing has its special concern over the individual for self care action in order to sustain life and health,recover from disease and cope with their effects"

She develops general theory of nursing in three related parts-

  1. Theory of Self care-This includes selfcare,selfcare agency,therapeutic self.It means perform on their own behalf in maintaining LIFE ,HEALTH AND WELL BEING.
  2. Theory of Self care deficit-This comes into play when an adult is incapable of continous effective selfcare.Nursing may be provided if the care abilities are less then those required for meeting a known selfcare demand.
  3. Theory of Nursing system- This is designed by the nurse based on selfcare needs and abbilities of patient to perform selfcare activities.Based on this it is further divided into THREE(3) classification of nursing system-

a)Whole compensatory System

b)Partly compensatory System

c)Supportive Educative System
