Maintenance of sustainable fisheries

Taking into consideration that our company is one of the biggest fishing industries worldwide, it also compel us to be more responsble not only towards our company, but also to maintain balance with respect to the sustainable fisheries as well.

Keeping the above points in mind and also Mugnuson-Stevens act, here are the guidelilnes to maintain sustainable fisheries:

1. Annual/Biannual health check-up of the fish resources should be mandatory.

2. Spreading awareness amongst the employees regarding management of eco-friendly fisheries and their risk assessment.

3. The habitat and the niches for the fishes must be in good and healthy condition.

4. While allowing fishing to take place, it should be taken into consideration that there should be sufficient spawing fishes to proliferate their next generation, assuring the fishes for future.

5. The focus should be given on the resilence of the ecosystem, wherein importance should be given on the fish species which are currently facing risk of extinction, such as Bluefin Tuna, European Eel, Orange Roughy, Acadian Redfish, Beluga Sturgeon, Atlantic Halibut etc.

I am sure these guidelines will not only help us in maintaining our world class quality but also provide us a better solution to the poor fishery conditions prevailing in the world.

The Oceanic Pacific fleet has just decided to use a pole-and- line method of fishing instead of gill netting to catch tuna. The latter method involves the use of miles of nets strung out across the ocean and therefore entraps other sea creatures besides tuna (e.g., porpoises, sea turtles). Concerns for endangered species was one reason for this decision, but perhaps more important was the fact that the major tuna canneries in the United States will no longer accept tuna...
